You’ll need some supplies before you begin:

A Ladder

A bucket and sponge

Mild soap

A small brush

Sealant

Lubricant

A cloth.

How to clean a garage door

First, you will need to remove detritus from the door. Corners of garages are prime real estate for spiders, so watch out! Use the brush to remove any loose dirt, cobwebs and dust. Then go inside the door and make sure you remove dirt and detritus from tracks and rollers.

Next, mix the water with the soap in the bucket. You will need to make sure that the soap you are using is suited to the material of your door. You may wish to invest in a specialist wood soap if your garage door is made of wood (and unpainted) because some soaps might stain it.

Now carefully use the sponge to wash the door, working top-to-bottom. If your garage door is painted, don’t apply too much pressure as you may strip the paint. If you are struggling to remove the dirt as the door is very aged, or you notice rust or rotting wood, it may be time to consider replacing the door as both can be unsightly.

Those looking into replacing garage doors Bristol should consider modern options like motorised doors. These are supplied by specialists such as Up and Over Doors Ltd and will add kerb appeal to your property.

Next, rinse off the soap solution. Refill your bucket with fresh water or use a hose if you have one.

Let the door dry. Once fully dry, add sealant to the door with a cloth if you wish, and lubricant to the door parts.
