Getting out in Nature this Autumn

Getting out and about is important for our health and wellbeing. As summer draws to a close, there are still lots of great reasons to get outdoors. Although we may need to wrap up a bit warmer, and if walking is something that you struggle with, look at using disability aids like these www.abilitysuperstore.com/ to make walking in the wintery cold or the wet leaves underfoot safer and easier for you. Here are some of the natural sights that we can look forward to seeing if we go out for a walk in the countryside this autumn…

Fungi – This is the time of the year when many different types of mushrooms will begin to pop up all over the place. They are essential for a healthy ecosystem, and they come in many different shapes and sizes, from the fly agaric, the pretty spotted mushroom that we associate with fairytale, to the strange black lumps known as King Alfred’s Cakes. It is important to be aware of the fact that we have many poisonous mushrooms in the UK so don’t think they are all edible!

Animals Collecting Food – The world is abundant with food sources right now, so this is a good time to see animals going about their business and collecting it for the winter. Acorns are a favourite with many animals, such as birds like the Jay, as well as squirrels of course, so keep an eye out when you are near an oak tree!
